Dr. Higgins embarked on her medical journey at the University of Aberdeen, where she graduated with honors in 2001. Her outstanding performance in obstetrics and gynaecology was recognised with the prestigious Matthews Duncan Gold Medal. Her academic curiosity led her to achieve a BSc Med Sci (Hons) for her pioneering research on the impact of gynaecological cancer on sexual function, marking the beginning of her dedication to gynaecology.

Her postgraduate journey unfolded in Aberdeen and the West of Scotland, where Dr. Higgins honed her expertise with advanced clinical training in vulval disease and gynaecological ultrasound scanning. Since becoming a consultant in 2018, she has been an integral part of the team at Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow. In her role, she serves as the local lead for the complex vulva service within the gynaecology department, illustrating her deep-seated commitment to advancing women's health care.

Dr. Higgins's academic contributions extend beyond her clinical work; she is an honorary senior clinical lecturer at the University of Glasgow, where her passion for teaching and mentoring the next generation of medical professionals shines through. Her work as chair for guidelines in gynaecology in GG&C showcases her dedication to establishing best practices in the field.

Her research interests have led to significant contributions, including securing funding to explore the aetiological factors in the development of vulval lichen sclerosus. This work culminated in a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from the University of Glasgow in 2013, focusing on inflammatory pathways using the pregnant uterus model.

At Westbourne Medical Studios, Dr. Higgins is excited to offer her expertise in managing a range of gynaecological concerns, ensuring personalised and compassionate care for all her patients.
