Dr Claire Higgins

Consultant Gynaecologist
I’m a Consultant Gynaecologist with a passion for delivering compassionate, evidence-based care to women at every stage of life. At Westbourne Medical Studios, I offer outpatient gynaecology services focused on vulval skin conditions, menstrual concerns, contraception, and menopause management.
My medical journey began at the University of Aberdeen, where I graduated with honours in 2001 and was awarded the Matthews Duncan Gold Medal for excellence in obstetrics and gynaecology. Early in my training, I developed a deep interest in women’s health, completing a BSc Med Sci (Hons) with research into the impact of gynaecological cancer on sexual function.
Following postgraduate training across Aberdeen and the West of Scotland, I pursued advanced clinical training in vulval disease and gynaecological ultrasound. Since becoming a consultant in 2018, I’ve worked at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, where I lead the complex vulva service. My role also includes chairing guideline development for gynaecology within NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde—a responsibility I take seriously as we strive for best practice and patient-centred care.
I’m also an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Glasgow and enjoy mentoring and teaching the next generation of doctors. My academic work includes a PhD in inflammatory pathways within the pregnant uterus model, and I’ve led funded research into vulval lichen sclerosus.
At Westbourne, I’m excited to provide expert, tailored care in a calm and supportive setting. My goal is always to listen carefully, explain clearly, and work collaboratively with each patient to ensure they feel informed, empowered, and cared for.
