Meet The Team
Dr Karen J Hogg
MD FRCP (Glas)
Consultant Cardiologist
I’m a Consultant Cardiologist with a special interest in heart failure and the provision of supportive and palliative care for people living with cardiac disease. My career has been shaped by a deep commitment to patient-centred care—supporting individuals and their families with compassion, clarity, and evidence-based expertise.
I trained in Glasgow and graduated from the University of Glasgow in 1999, before being awarded a British Heart Foundation junior fellowship. My research focused on heart failure with preserved ejection fraction, and I was awarded my MD in 2002. I went on to sub-specialise in cardiology, training in hospitals across the West of Scotland before taking up my consultant post at Glasgow Royal Infirmary in 2010.
Alongside my clinical role, I’ve worked closely with the British Heart Foundation and Marie Curie to establish The Caring Together Programme—an initiative dedicated to improving palliative and supportive care for patients living with heart failure. I’m also proud to serve as the Clinical Lead for Cardiology at Glasgow Royal Infirmary and Chair of the NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde Heart Failure Managed Clinical Network. I continue my academic work as an Associate Professor at the University of Glasgow, where I lead clinical projects aimed at improving the experience of care for those with cardiac conditions.
At Westbourne Medical Studios, I’m delighted to offer consultations for a wide range of cardiac issues, including chest pain, hypertension, heart failure, palpitations, arrhythmias (such as atrial fibrillation), valvular heart disease, and heart murmurs. My approach is always to provide clear explanations, individualised treatment, and respectful, patient-focused care.
